In order to provide social security and welfare schemes to folk artists, Tamil Nadu Folk Artiste’s Welfare Board was established
on 26th April 2007 which is running in Chennai Music College Campus. The Government of Tamil Nadu has allotted Rs. 1 crore to the welfare board to provide various benefits to Folk artistes.
20,001 members have been enrolled in the board as on 28th February 2010.
2000 members and their family members availed the benefit of Rs.26,51,017 as on 28th February 2010
Free medical camps have been conducted in 21 Districts and 4614 members and their family members were benefited so far.
Free house site pattas have been allotted to 86 folk artistes in all over Tamilnadu.
Tanjore District Collector provided Free musical instruments worth Rs.42,000 and Vizhupuram District Collector has planned to give free instruments to their district artists worth Rs.1,52,100/-
Photos have been taken for the members and family members of welfare board for Life saving treatment of Kalaignar Insurance scheme. 18,575 members and their family are benefited under this scheme.
